At the end of the workweek, Sverdlovsk residents were informed that entrance to both dendrological parks in Yekaterinburg—on Pervomayskaya and 8 March—has become paid. The new policy affects visitors coming for guided tours or photoshoots. Group training sessions will also require payment.

To engage in commercial activities, one must purchase a subscription: either for a day at 1000 rubles or for a month at 5000 rubles.

Of course, many were unpleasantly surprised by this news. Paid city parks are still a new phenomenon for us. But will it catch on?

      — Parks, gardens, squares... City treasures. And now we can't take photos? Who and for what merits should we pay?

      — I’m taking wedding photos at the “Dendropark.” How will they determine if it’s a professional, commercial shoot? Maybe it’s just my friends. Will they check contracts?

      — At least we still have free entry for visitors. In Sochi, one park charges 500 rubles, and another 300 rubles, — share local residents' comments to E1.RU.

All proceeds will be used to improve park infrastructure, including maintaining restrooms and protecting against vandalism.

      Are paid parks normal?
