Today at 15:15 the Investigative Committee initiated a new criminal case regarding the death of 11 people caused by a gas explosion in a five-story building in Nizhny Tagil.

According to a source from the publication "KP-Ekaterinburg," the department for particularly important cases of the Investigative Committee for Sverdlovsk Region has opened a criminal case under the article "Causing death by negligence to two or more persons." The accusation may be brought against the owner of the apartment where the explosion occurred. The owner’s daughter, a 12-year-old girl, died in the intensive care unit of DGC No. 9 in Ekaterinburg 28 days after the explosion.
So far, no charges have been brought against the woman, but there may be a significant delay between the initiation of the criminal case and the formal accusations, clarified an insider from "KP." The new case was opened as part of the investigation under the article "Production, storage, transportation, or sale of goods and products, performing work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements," which was initiated immediately after the building’s entrance collapsed.
Currently, charges have been filed against three employees of "Gazex": locksmith Alexander Alimov, his colleague Alexandra Erikyina, and master Maxim Grivskii. They have been under house arrest for nearly a year.
— The investigation period has been extended again by 3 months. There is no clear idea when the investigation will be completed, — the source noted.
It is worth recalling that one of the versions of the August 1, 2024 explosion is a domestic gas leak. As a result of the explosion, two entrances of a residential building on Sibirskaya, 81, collapsed. 11 people died, including 6 children. After clearing the rubble, on August 8, the building was declared emergency, and a month later, the five-story structure was demolished. The residents received compensation for purchasing new housing.
The Investigative Committee for Sverdlovsk Region declined to comment on the initiation of the new criminal case.
