Sverdlovsk resident fined 2 million rubles for social media comments

Today at 10:46 AM, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court sentenced a young resident of Kamensk-Uralsky in a case of Nazi rehabilitation. The investigation was conducted by the local branch of the Investigative Committee of Russia, according to the press service of the Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for Sverdlovsk Region.

It was established that in October 2021 and February 2022, the defendant, born in 2001, posted text comments on one of the social networks justifying fascist and Nazi ideology, crimes committed by Nazi Germany, and denying facts established by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal. The comments were identified by regional FSB officers. A criminal case was initiated under Part 2, Clause "v" of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (re-appropriation of Nazism committed publicly using the Internet). At the request of the Investigative Committee, the young man was taken into custody.

"The investigator of the Investigative Committee of Russia conducted a set of measures aimed at establishing all circumstances of the committed crime, collecting and securing evidence. Specifically, inspections of the scene and objects, interrogations of the accused and witnesses, and analysis of characterizing documentation were carried out. Psycho-linguistic and psychological-psychiatric forensic examinations were performed.

The latest expert study established that since the defendant could and can understand the actual nature and social danger of his actions and control them, there are no grounds for applying compulsory medical measures to him," the regional Investigative Department's statement said. During the investigation, the defendant admitted guilt and repented for his actions. The criminal case with an approved indictment was sent to the Sverdlovsk Regional Court for trial on the merits.

The court sentenced the defendant to a fine of 2 million rubles. Considering the time spent in custody, the court decided to reduce the fine to 400,000 rubles. He was released in the courtroom.

According to the press service of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court, the convicted Ilya Fayzulin was granted an installment plan—50,000 rubles per month.

The sentence will come into legal force within 15 days unless appealed by the parties.
