A Sverdlovsk woman became a victim of scammers and lost a large sum due to a package
Today at 09:06, in Yekaterinburg, a woman tried to receive a "package" but instead handed over 8 thousand euros.
According to the Yekaterinburg Department of Internal Affairs, an elderly woman received a call from a fraudulent "Russian Post" employee claiming that a package had arrived for her and that she needed to provide the code from an SMS message to receive it, which she did. Subsequently, she was contacted by "representatives of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service and the FSB," who frightened the 80-year-old woman into believing her Gosuslugi account had been hacked and that a power of attorney had been issued in her name.
They convinced her to transfer all her available funds to a "safe account" in foreign currency (euros) to protect them from scammers, police said.
Ultimately, the victim quickly cashed out her savings and exchanged them for 8 thousand euros. She told bank employees that she needed the money for personal purposes. The woman placed the money in a black sports bag and handed it over to a courier in her building.
Soon, she realized she had been deceived by scammers, who had already ceased contact.
