Today at 4:15 PM, a volunteer from the Orthodox Mercy Service called on the authorities of Yekaterinburg to conduct a historical and cultural examination of the area under 1905 Square. Last week, the "Summer in the Square" festival took place there.
As part of the festival, a dance floor was laid on the cobblestones of the square, reports EAN agency. Meanwhile, believers reminded that until 1930, the Bogojevlensky Cathedral stood at the site of the Lenin monument, in the courtyard of which not only priests but also prominent citizens of the city were buried.
"Maybe it’s time to carry out a historical and cultural examination of the square? This place is the heart of the city’s history. Are we, with our trucks and stages, sweeping away our history like unnecessary garbage?" writes EAN Yekaterinburg Diocese volunteer and lawyer Andrey Smirnov in his column on the site.
"We will be playing volleyball on the bones of our ancestors," he commented in August on plans to install sports courts on the square.
According to the author of the column, excavations and reburial of the bones should have been carried out first. Smirnov also believes it would be right to install a commemorative monument to the people who contributed to the founding of Yekaterinburg. And only then to hold dances.
