In Yekaterinburg, a GPS got the traffic rules wrong at a major downtown intersection.
In Yekaterinburg, Yandex.Navigator suggested that a driver perform an unnecessary maneuver at the Chelyuskintsev–Papanina intersection — the very one where a fatal accident occurred six months ago. At the time many were puzzled by the confusing traffic layout, and it turned out that even the navigator believed a left turn there was impossible. The situation was pointed out by automotive expert Dmitry Larionov.
“Half a year ago I was puzzled as to why some drivers find the traffic arrangement at the Chelyuskintsev–Papanina intersection in Yekaterinburg strange, and a taxi driver even went to make a strange maneuver (and it so happened that he caused a fatal accident in the process). And the other day I was ‘a bit’ surprised when Yandex.Navigator suggested this very zigzag to me as a route. So the navigator also thinks a left turn is prohibited,” the auto expert wrote on his Telegram channel.
Dmitry pointed out the navigation error, and the situation was eventually corrected.
At this intersection, when exiting from Papanina onto Chelyuskintsev, you can turn left, but only after crossing the tram tracks, since the “Straight or right” road sign applies up to the dividing strip, and the tram tracks in this case serve precisely that function.
