A man who beat an infant in Yekaterinburg nearly to death has been arrested.

      The man accused of attempting to kill an infant was arrested yesterday, January 17, in Yekaterinburg.

      Media reported that on Belorechenskaya Street in Yekaterinburg a man beat a young mother and an infant. The child with serious injuries was taken to hospital.

      A fifty-two-year-old man, while in the apartment, first attacked his wife and then the child. The infant was diagnosed with fractures, reports "Fourth Channel."

      The preliminary investigation authorities accuse Alexander Ufimtsev of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 30 and paragraph "v" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of a minor or other person whom the perpetrator knew to be in a helpless state").

      The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg yesterday considered the investigator's petition to remand the accused in custody, the United Press Service of the Courts of the Sverdlovsk Region reports.

      The court ordered detention until March 15, 2026. The court's ruling has not yet entered into legal force.

      Earlier in Yekaterinburg Dmitry Kuchin, who brutally killed his one-and-a-half-month-old grandson, was found legally insane. Also, Yekaterinburg resident Ilya Ivanov, whose one-year-old daughter was found dead in a snowdrift beneath the windows, avoided a sentence to a penal colony due to a mental illness.
