The most vulnerable settlements in the Sverdlovsk region due to flooding have been named.
In the area at risk of flooding, territories where about 5,000 people live have been identified, reported the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Sverdlovsk Region, Denis Mamontov. According to him, around 30 bridges are also at risk.
As clarified by the head of the Hydrological Forecasting Department of the Ural Hydrometeorological Center, Lyudmila Anenko, this year the highest risks are associated with the rivers Tura, Nitsa, Sosva, and Tavda. The main wave of flooding is expected to end by the end of May; however, high water levels on the Tavda may persist until August. Dangerous hydrological phenomena, including the flooding of residential houses, cannot be ruled out in Irbit and Turinsk.
Mamontov also noted that the spring flood has already begun—snow is actively melting, which accelerates the rise of water.
In the Sverdlovsk region, bridges have begun to be dismantled to address an important issue.
