The State Traffic Inspectorate in the Sverdlovsk region has issued an appeal to motorists and bikers.
The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Sverdlovsk region recommends that drivers not rush to change their winter tires, and that motorcyclists refrain from riding. This is stated in the agency's channel on MAH.
Before stable positive temperatures at night and complete melting of ice formations on the roadway, drivers are advised to refrain from changing winter tires, and motorcyclists from the start of the active riding season.
"For several weeks, warm weather has been maintained in the Sverdlovsk region, and the snow cover has almost completely disintegrated. However, the climatic conditions of the Middle Urals remain variable. According to Sverdlovsk meteorologists, worsening weather is expected in the coming days: a drop in air temperature at night to negative values is anticipated, as well as the formation of wet snow on the road surface," the agency warned drivers.
For regions with unstable climates, such as the Sverdlovsk region, it is advisable to use winter tires until the average daily air temperature consistently exceeds +5°C. Typically, this occurs no earlier than the second decade of April, and sometimes even later.
Under the current conditions, premature replacement of winter tires with summer ones poses a direct threat to road safety, emphasized the traffic inspectors.
"Studded tires provide stability for the vehicle on slippery roads, reduce braking distance, and allow for maintaining control during sharp temperature fluctuations. Summer tires lose elasticity in cold weather, their grip properties with the road surface critically decrease, making the car uncontrollable even with minor ice or wet snow," explained the State Traffic Inspectorate.
A separate recommendation was given by the agency for motorcyclists.
In combination with near-zero air temperatures, wet road surfaces pose an increased danger for motorcyclists: tire grip with the road is minimal, and the risk of skidding and subsequent falls during turns increases dramatically.
"Even when the asphalt dries during the day, it is premature to go out on public roads. Persisting negative night temperatures lead to the formation of a thin layer of ice, primarily on bridges, overpasses, and in poorly lit areas (in the shade of trees, buildings)," the State Traffic Inspectorate points out.
