According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, the highest quality of life indicators among Russian cities were recorded in Moscow, Grozny, Sochi, St. Petersburg, and Vladikavkaz. This data is presented in a study by Alexander Shatilov, the deputy scientific director of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, which is available to RIA Novosti.
The extended list of cities with high ratings also includes Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Novorossiysk, Kaluga, and Vologda.
At the same time, the greatest housing accessibility, according to residents, is demonstrated by Orenburg, Khabarovsk, and Murmansk.
The highest level of subjective material well-being was recorded in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg.
The ranking was formed based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors. Among them are the level of material well-being (assessed by consumer activity), housing accessibility, quality of medical services, environmental conditions, the performance of educational institutions, access to cultural resources, and opportunities for self-realization. The state of road infrastructure, the efficiency of public utilities and local authorities, the level of urban environment improvement, the prevalence of destructive behavior, and the degree of social tension were also taken into account.
