According to the materials of the criminal case, on the evening of August 7, 1999, in the Talitsky district, the accused kidnapped and killed the child, who had previously testified in a criminal case regarding a murder for which two of the accused's friends were charged, the regional Investigative Committee reported. "For a long time, the specified crime remained unsolved. During systematic work on investigating and solving serious and particularly serious crimes committed in previous years in the region, by comparing facts known at the time the criminal case was initiated, analyzing available information and evidence, and through meticulous and consistent work with interviewed witnesses, data about the involvement of the accused in the commission of the specified crime was obtained," the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region reported on Friday.
Rukhlov is charged under part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of a person in connection with the performance of public duty by that person, committed against a person who is known to be in a helpless state, associated with kidnapping).
"As a result of the investigator's well-structured interrogation tactics, with the sequential presentation of available evidence, the accused provided a confession. A verification of the testimony was conducted at the scene, during which he described in detail how he committed the crime," the Investigative Committee's statement said.
The criminal case with an approved indictment will soon be sent to court for substantive consideration.
In the footage of the interrogation and investigative experiment, the man, whose face is blurred, recounts that he strangled the girl and disposed of her body in a vegetable pit.
The body of 9-year-old Lena has not been found. Igor Rukhlov's lawyer previously stated that his client's confession was obtained under torture with a stun gun.
