At Koltsovo Airport, customs officials intercepted an attempt to smuggle a large batch of jewelry under the guise of personal items. A passenger arriving on a flight from Tashkent was carrying about 600 brooches and 750 cases for them.
According to customs officials, inspectors discovered six types of brooches—100 pieces of each. The woman explained that she purchased the jewelry wholesale at the market, as they were not sold retail. She stated that the items were intended as gifts for acquaintances and friends, as well as for decorating clothing that she sews for herself.
The total cost of the purchase, according to her estimate, was about one and a half thousand rubles (approximately 250,000 Uzbek sums).
However, customs officials doubted the declared purpose of the import. Post chief Sergey Borovik noted that the assortment and quantity of the goods indicate their commercial purpose. As a result, the batch was recognized as commercial.
The jewelry was sent for commodity expertise, and an administrative case was initiated against the resident of Yekaterinburg for the article on undeclared goods.
