The police detained a 25-year-old man who beat an elderly man on Latvian Street. A criminal case has been initiated against him.
Officers from Police Department No. 6 tracked down the young man who attacked an elderly man near a house on Latvian Street on May 1. He turned out to be an unconvicted resident of the same building. Earlier, paramedics contacted the police. They brought in a 66-year-old man with soft tissue injuries to his head. Relatives of the victim approached the local police department asking to find and hold the unknown attacker accountable. The police identified the young man and brought him to the station.
The detained man admitted that he had been drinking at home that day. When he went outside in the evening, he noticed a man near the entrance who, according to him, was drinking alcohol. The resident was outraged by this fact and attacked the pensioner. He hit him several times and then simply left, but soon returned and helped the victim sit on a bench.
— A criminal case has been initiated against the young man under the article "Hooliganism with the use of violence." The suspect is under a travel ban. The punishment for such a crime provides for up to five years of imprisonment, the police clarified.
It was previously reported that the pensioner had recently suffered a stroke, and after the beating, his overall condition significantly worsened.
