Sverdlovsk rescuers propose to introduce rules for stand-up paddleboarding enthusiasts
May 24, 2026 The Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) proposes to introduce specific water behavior rules for stand-up paddleboards (abbreviated from English - Stand Up Paddle).
The proposal was voiced on the air of OTV by Alexey Morozov, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region, reports "Fourth Channel" in MAX.
"The rules for water behavior are only prescribed for small vessels: how to pass each other, how to maneuver, at what speed to swim. Stand-up paddleboards are essentially sports equipment, and there are no such rules for them. It would probably not be unnecessary," said the EMERCOM representative in the program "Accent."
In particular, Alexey Morozov advocated for the mandatory wearing of life jackets while paddling on stand-up boards. This practice was introduced in Nizhny Tagil, but after complaints, the rules were canceled, recalls "The Four."
"If we take the practice of Nizhny Tagil - they adopted a resolution requiring everyone on paddleboards to wear life jackets. It didn't last long. There were proactive people who proved that such rules are not prescribed anywhere and that it is illegal."
The rescuer expressed great regret regarding the cancellation of life jackets for paddleboarders.
