The expert explained why the tan in the Urals is a different color.
From a medical point of view, a beneficial tan does not exist. This was stated by dermatologist-oncologist Natalia Simonova in the program "Morning Express," as reported by "Fourth Channel" in MAX.
The belief that the Ural sun is not as dangerous as the southern one is, according to the dermatologist-oncologist, a misconception.
"The risks are absolutely the same. It's just that our tan is a bit different, more reddish due to the angle of the rays, but that doesn't mean the risks are lower," explained Natalia Simonova.
She urges people to protect themselves from the sun not only in nature or by the water but always and everywhere.
"If we consider a safe tan in terms of minimizing negative effects, then there is a certain set of rules:
SPF protection, headwear, the right time for tanning," the specialist reminded.
For sunny regions, the doctor recommends SPF 50 and above, and for the Ural region, no less than 30. At the same time, one should choose products labeled "broad spectrum," which block rays not only of type B (most active in summer, causing redness, sunburn, and tanning, and can lead to skin cancer - note from Uralweb.ru) but also of type A (affecting year-round, penetrating deep layers of the skin, not causing burns, but provoking collagen breakdown, pigmentation, photoaging, and also increasing the risk of skin cancer - note from Uralweb.ru).
People with fair skin, light eyes, red hair, freckles, and an abundance of moles are practically advised against tanning.
Meanwhile, forecasters predict that the upcoming summer will be hot throughout all three months and drier than the last.
In September 2025, the chief forecaster of the Ural Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Office, Galina Sheporenko, summarized the results of last summer.
