Sverdlovsk nature reserves complain about swarms of mosquitoes driving away tourists
June 9, 2026 In the Visim Biosphere Reserve (Kirovgrad), tourists have been warned about the unprecedented number of mosquitoes observed this summer.
Mosquitoes begin to attack people closer to night. "There hasn't been such an invasion of mosquitoes in our region for over 20 years!" - it is stated on the reserve's page on "VKontakte". Only thick clothing, mosquito nets, and repellents provide relief.
The director of the natural area, Alexandra Khlopotova, told "URA.RU" that mosquitoes have hatched en masse not only in the Visim Reserve but also in the neighboring "Denegkin Stone" (Severouralsk). This has already led to a decrease in the number of visitors.
Recall that last summer, Russians were frightened by chikungunya fever, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. It was reported that chikungunya mainly threatens tourists traveling to tropical countries, but its carriers have also begun to appear in Russia.
