The ground metro has been talked about again in Yekaterinburg.
The authorities of the Berezovsky municipal district are working on options to improve transportation links with Yekaterinburg. As reported in an interview with "Ural Meridian" by the acting head of the district, Vladimir Shauraks, prospective solutions include the construction of a tram line and the launch of a city electric train using the infrastructure of Russian Railways (RZD).
According to Shauraks, a final decision has not yet been made. At the same time, municipalities within the Yekaterinburg agglomeration have signed an agreement on information interaction, which provides for the exchange of urban planning documentation, the search for optimal connection points between territories, and the preparation of economic justification for projects.
One of the key tasks will be to assess the cost of constructing a tram line between Berezovsky and Yekaterinburg. The parties will also explore the possibility of organizing rail transport based on the principle of ground metro.
Specific timelines for the implementation of the projects have not yet been determined. As Shauraks noted, it is premature to discuss them until cost calculations and funding sources are available.
In the meantime, transportation links between the cities are being strengthened with bus routes.
