In Yekaterinburg, flowers and toys are being brought to the site of the pedestrians' deaths near the Great Zlatoust (PHOTO)
Residents of Yekaterinburg on Thursday, June 11, are bringing flowers, memorial candles, and soft toys to the site of the death of four people who were hit by a "rampaging" bus last night.
The spontaneous memorial has appeared on the granite ramp of the church, as well as on the sidewalk itself.
It became known almost immediately after the incident that three adults and a child (the age and gender of the victims have not yet been reported) died in the accident. Three people were taken to the hospital in moderate condition from the scene of the accident - two women aged 32 and 45, and a 22-year-old young man.
Around 9:00 PM, the bus on route No. 81 "Avangard - 17th Mechanized Column," driven by a native of one of the Central Asian republics, was moving along 8th of March Street towards Lenin Avenue. When exiting the intersection with Malyshev Street, the driver collided with a Lifan vehicle, after which he veered onto the sidewalk where pedestrians were standing.
Later, the 48-year-old bus driver explained his actions by saying that he wanted to rush through the green traffic light, and then he had a severe headache and his vision darkened, which may have caused him to mistakenly press the gas pedal instead of the brake.
Route No. 81 is serviced by the private transport company "Avto-Nom," reports 66.RU. An inspection awaits all carriers, said Governor Denis Pasler.
In connection with the accident in Yekaterinburg, some bloggers on Telegram channels are recalling the tragedy in St. Petersburg, where a bus with passengers driven by a foreign citizen veered off the roadway into the Moyka River and sank.
Also, in connection with yesterday's tragedy, the high-profile incident involving a drunk repeat offender, Mikhail Slobodyan, who ran over children near a supermarket in Revda, is being recalled, resulting in the death of two little sisters at the scene, while their friend has still not recovered from the injuries sustained.
