The Supreme Court of Russia denied guardian Naumova, who killed a 5-year-old child, a review of the sentence.
On June 11, 2026, the Judicial Panel for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation denied Veronika Naumova's appeal. This was reported by the press service of the courts of the Sverdlovsk region.
This criminal story began in June 2023, when a resident of Yekaterinburg, Veronika Naumova, reported her ward, 5-year-old Daler Bobiev, missing. A few days later, the remains of the child were found in a garage near Naumova's home. Later, an examination established that the child had died a violent death several months before his "disappearance."
The Sverdlovsk Regional Court found Veronika Naumova guilty of committing 61 (!) crimes:
49 crimes of unlawful deprivation of liberty (subparagraphs "a," "d," "zh" of part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
5 crimes of intentional infliction of serious harm to health (subparagraphs "b," "e" of part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
3 crimes of involving a minor in a serious and especially serious crime (part 4 of Article 150 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
1 crime of failure to fulfill duties for the upbringing of a minor (Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
as well as:
torture (subparagraphs "a," "g," "d," "e," "z" of part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
murder of a minor (subparagraphs "v," "d," "l" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
fraud in obtaining payments (part 1 of Article 159.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Naumova was exempted from punishment under Article 156 (failure to fulfill duties for the upbringing of a minor) and Article 159.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud in obtaining payments) due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal liability.
By combining the crimes through partial aggregation of sentences, Veronika Naumova was sentenced to 24 years in a general regime colony, with subsequent restriction of freedom for 2 years.
The court also satisfied the civil claim against Veronika Naumova from the victim—the father of the deceased boy—in the amount of 1 million rubles.
The Sverdlovsk Regional Court established that Naumova also involved her nephew, Daniil Egolnikov, in the abuse of the ward. He was found guilty of committing 11 crimes under subparagraphs "a," "d" of part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Unlawful deprivation of liberty by a group of persons by prior agreement in relation to a knowingly minor") and subparagraphs "g," "e" of part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Torture of a minor by a group of persons"). He was sentenced to 5 years in a general regime colony.
The sentence came into legal force on November 24, 2025. However, Naumova filed a cassation appeal. The highest judicial authority in Russia recognized the sentence as lawful and justified.
