"Well, what is this?" Tatiana Merzlyakova revealed a flaw in the law enforcement system.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Sverdlovsk Region, member of the Human Rights Council Tatyana Merzlyakova, has effectively acknowledged that the law enforcement system in the region is not as open as she had believed after conducting joint work with the leadership of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on ensuring the rights of those held in temporary detention facilities (IVS).
As the Sverdlovsk ombudsman told "Ъ-Ural," she learned from reliable sources that they were unable to deliver clean linen to one of the detainees in the IVS. "They were refused because there was an instruction not to accept anything for a specific citizen," Tatyana Merzlyakova explained.
The regional ombudsman stated that this threw her off balance, as she had previously done significant work aimed at ensuring the rights of detainees and arrested individuals.
"Because it seemed like we had resolved everything. Well, what is this? I can understand when it concerns a brutal murderer, but when we are talking about some economic crimes, it is completely unjustified," the human rights defender explained her disappointment to "Ъ-Ural."
The law enforcement system in the Sverdlovsk region has not become more open over many years of interaction with the human rights apparatus of the ombudsman, Tatyana Merzlyakova admitted.
