Five residents of Krasnouralsk aged 16-18 have been convicted of arson on behalf of Ukraine.
A sentence regarding five residents of Krasnouralsk aged 16 to 18, detained for committing terrorist acts on railway infrastructure in the interests of Ukraine, was issued in the Sverdlovsk region, reports the Investigative Committee.
The investigation was conducted by the Central Interregional Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
It has been established that in July 2024, the convicted individuals, acting as an organized group, set fire to equipment for digital cellular communication in Krasnouralsk for 100,000 rubles promised by a perpetrator acting in the interests of Ukraine.
A few days later, they attempted to set fire to a locomotive standing on the tracks. They were unable to complete the crime due to their detention by the FSB of Russia. They did not receive the promised money.
Depending on the role of each of the accused, their actions were qualified under part 3 of article 30, paragraph "a" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempt to commit a terrorist act) and under paragraph "a" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (commitment of a terrorist act). The criminal case against the instigators of the crimes has been separated into a separate proceeding.
By the court's sentence, one of the accused was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment, another to 6 years, and three others to 8 years each. Three minors will serve their sentences in a juvenile correctional facility, while two 18-year-olds will serve in a general regime colony.
The Investigative Committee of Russia reminds that in case of attempts at recruitment or receiving offers to commit a crime, one should immediately contact law enforcement agencies. Individuals involved in terrorist activities who voluntarily refuse to commit crimes are not subject to criminal liability.
The Anti-Terrorism Commission of the Sverdlovsk region noted that criminal liability for such articles begins at the age of 14.
