The driverless tram will begin testing on the streets of Yekaterinburg.
A competence center for unmanned trams will be established in the Sverdlovsk region. A corresponding agreement is planned to be signed within the framework of the international industrial exhibition "Innoprom," which has started in Yekaterinburg.
As reported by the general director of the company "Movista," Alexey Zotov, to "Signal Ural," the region also hopes to enter the program for an experimental legal regime, which will allow for the testing of unmanned trams on urban routes.
According to him, the necessary infrastructure for the implementation of the project has already been created along the route between Yekaterinburg and Verkhnyaya Pyshma. Modern tracks, a digital depot, trained specialists, and appropriate rolling stock are required to launch unmanned movement.
Currently, the tram "Lion Cub" is already undergoing tests in unmanned mode at the depot, where it independently performs maneuvers. The next stage will be testing on the urban line. However, even after obtaining the necessary permission, trips will be conducted under the supervision of a test driver. Before full launch, the tram must undergo at least three thousand kilometers of accident-free testing.
In addition, "Movista" announced the release of a two-section unmanned version of the tram "Lion Cub," designed to carry up to 222 passengers.
