A Yekaterinburg resident with access to state secrets was sentenced for attempting to vacation abroad.

      The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg fined a local resident with access to state secrets for attempting to leave the country. This was reported by the press service of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.

      — The woman was found guilty under the article "Attempt to leave the Russian Federation by a citizen with access to state secrets, whose right to leave is knowingly restricted." The woman expressed remorse, and the court imposed a punishment below the lower limit—a fine of 25,000 rubles, the court noted.

      The court established that the woman had worked for many years at a defense enterprise in Yekaterinburg, having access to state secrets. In February 2025, she resigned, and before her resignation, a special commission issued a conclusion restricting her right to leave Russia until January 29, 2030. The woman signed documents confirming that she was aware of the ban.

      Nevertheless, in September 2025, she was vacationing in Sochi and decided to travel to Abkhazia. At the border with Abkhazia, border guards found her name in the database of those prohibited from leaving, writes EAN.

      The court reminded that access to state secrets is a serious responsibility that remains even after the termination of the employment contract. Ignoring signed obligations and restrictions on leaving the country entails criminal liability. Earlier, Russians were urged not to travel abroad.
