On August 2, 2026, the arrest of Arkadiy Wagner, the second defendant in the criminal case of hooliganism initiated after the beating of the well-known Ural scientist Nikita Zezin, will be appealed. This was reported by his lawyer Alexey Stadnikov, as conveyed by RIA Novosti.
On Friday, July 31, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Yekaterinburg placed the man in custody until September 28.
"We disagree with the court's decision; it is illegal and unfounded, we will appeal," said Wagner's lawyer to journalists. The appeal will be filed on August 3, Stadnikov specified.
The well-known Yekaterinburg lawyer Sergey Kolosovskiy, commenting to "Komsomolskaya Pravda - Yekaterinburg" on the charges against Wagner and Reveruk, noted that he does not see signs of hooliganism in their actions. According to the investigation, Arkadiy Wagner used force against 58-year-old Alexander Shanina, the deputy director of the Scientific Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nikita Zezin, who died in the hospital a few days after the attack by 39-year-old Wagner and his 38-year-old friend Alexander Reveruk from a heart attack.
Wagner is a business partner of Reveruk, RIA Novosti reports. According to media reports, the men own a company providing sewage services to the private sector.
Colleagues of the deceased Nikita Zezin previously reported that Reveruk's vehicles were dumping waste, including on the experimental fields of the Scientific Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
