      In the Sverdlovsk region, the "focus of African swine fever" has been eliminated. On August 5, 2026, command-staff exercises were held in the Rezh district to eliminate the focus of African swine fever. According to the scenario, two pigs died in one of the private farms, after which veterinarians identified signs of a dangerous disease in the animals. Laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis, and specialists began working on measures to localize the outbreak, the Department of Information Policy of the Sverdlovsk region reported.

      According to Igor Streltzov, the deputy director of the regional veterinary department, the cause of the infection in the exercise scenario was food waste that the owners fed to the animals. It was in this waste that the causative agent of African swine fever was subsequently found. He emphasized that this method of feeding is unacceptable as it creates a high risk of spreading the infection.

      During the exercises, specialists practiced cordoning off the area, confiscating and destroying animals, as well as disinfecting premises and the surrounding area. More than 60 people and 24 units of equipment participated in the training.

      As a result of the exercises, the conditional focus of African swine fever was successfully eliminated, and all assigned tasks were completed in full.
