      August 6, 2026 The mother of 13-year-old Yesenia, who was buried under sand at the Lebyazhinsky quarry in Nizhny Tagil, is asking the authorities not to stop the search efforts and to allocate resources for retrieving her daughter's body, reports v-tagile.ru. According to the woman, the search has practically stopped. Rescuers deny this, reports the news agency "All News."

      Local rescuers were unable to retrieve the girl's body from the quarry for burial, even with the help of specialists from the regional EMERCOM who came for just one day, said the mother of the deceased, Nadezhda.

      "The rescuers have neither the means nor the personnel to fully conduct the operations. They do not know and do not understand how to search for and retrieve her," the woman said.

      For their part, the Nizhny Tagil Population Protection Center reported that the search will continue with the efforts of the Ural Search and Rescue Team of EMERCOM with the assistance of local specialists.

      They noted that a drone was used and sand was washed away with a motor pump, but the work of the equipment is complicated by the constantly collapsing ground.

      The thickness of the layer of collapsed sand at the bottom of the quarry reaches 3.5-4 meters, said Sergey Koperkin, director of the city’s Population Protection Center, on "Tagil-TV."

      "I saw the conditions in which our rescuers are working — these are extremely dangerous conditions. There are constant secondary collapses of this sand. You start to dig — a new collapse occurs. Conducting diving operations there is extremely risky," emphasized Sergey Koperkin.

      To assess the situation, the Ural Search and Rescue Team was involved in the operation, equipped with a specialized underwater drone, after which it was decided to use a high-powered motor pump to break through the debris. However, the search process was significantly slowed down by deteriorating weather.

      The rains made the sandy slope even more unstable, creating a direct threat to the lives of the rescuers themselves, so the work had to be temporarily suspended.

      "Now the question of involving professionals from 'Centrospas' is being resolved. [...] Nevertheless, the rescuers insist that the threat of a secondary collapse must be completely eliminated first, and only then can the search operations safely continue," Koperkin explained.

      Recall that the 13-year-old girl died at the Lebyazhinsky quarry, a popular recreation spot for residents of Nizhny Tagil, on July 24. The sandy bank collapsed under her feet, and several tons of sand fell on top. It became clear almost immediately that retrieving the girl's body was not possible.
