The authorities of Yekaterinburg will fight for sobriety together with the Russian Orthodox Church.

The administration of Yekaterinburg and the Yekaterinburg Diocese have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of spiritual and moral education, promoting a culture of sobriety, and popularizing a healthy lifestyle. The document was signed by the head of the city, Alexey Orlov, and Metropolitan Yevgeny of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye.

The parties intend to jointly prepare specialists, develop educational and methodological materials, as well as hold conferences, seminars, and round tables.

Every year, the partners will create a plan of joint activities and summarize its implementation.

Orlov noted that the goal of the cooperation is to make a sober lifestyle a natural habit for the city's residents and to create an environment in which dependent and destructive behavior will be met with disapproval.

According to Metropolitan Yevgeny, such a program has been implemented for several years in the settlements of the region. He stated that its participants demonstrate positive results, including due to the development of sports, cultural, and social infrastructure.

As of September 1, the rules for the sale of alcohol have changed in the Sverdlovsk region.
