Dangerous dietary supplements for weight loss have started being sold online under the guise of toys and cookies.
Teenagers taking weight loss drugs have started to arrive at the ODKB in Yekaterinburg with acute poisoning, reports the portal 66.RU. Homemade dietary supplements are made from Chinese raw materials in Kazakhstan.
In Russia, drugs containing sibutramine are included in the list of narcotic and psychotropic substances. Selling them without a prescription can lead to up to three years of imprisonment. In many countries, including China, sibutramine is banned, and in those where it is allowed, it is used in limited doses for the treatment of obesity, writes 66.RU.
The target audience for sellers of dangerous dietary supplements containing sibutramine has become girls - teenagers and youth.
To hide the presence of a psychostimulant in the composition, manufacturers resort to deception: they only report on plant components (which is why dietary supplements have been available for so long in open sale on marketplaces), indicate non-existent foreign companies from the USA and EU on the packaging, and even sell them under the guise of other products - toys, construction sets, cookies, or protein bars (the articles are communicated to buyers in messengers).
"Izvestia," having conducted its own investigation, established that dietary supplements containing sibutramine are produced in Kazakhstan in a makeshift manner from raw materials purchased in China under the guise of laboratory experiments.
