As auto expert and head of the public center "Automobilist" Maxim Edryshov stated, the young people had no chance of survival.
"Is it really possible to open the door underwater? No — the pressure from outside is too strong. The only option is to open the window and escape through it. Usually, a person in a sinking car has 30-60 seconds. But considering that before falling into the water, the car crushed a concrete block in this accident, it’s possible the passengers were unconscious," explained the expert in an interview with E1.RU.
Auto expert Dmitry Larionov estimated that the driver was traveling at a speed of about 170-190 km/h. Just before impact, the car slowed down only to 94 km/h.
Rescue workers who retrieved the car from the water noted that the operation only began at 8 a.m. (the accident occurred at 00:40 midnight). Nighttime dives are prohibited, and in this situation, the risks would have initially been unjustified.
On the night of July 8, a tinted Lexus at high speed failed to navigate a turn in Nizhny Tagil and flew off the bridge into a pond. Three people died in the crash. The young driver and two female passengers died.
The driver of the SUV was 19-year-old Alexander Storozhev. He was riding around the city with his friend Andrey and decided to give a ride to two acquaintances — 20-year-olds Veronika Svatova and Anastasia Shamrina. The driver asked his friend to record a video of him speeding along the embankment. The first attempt was successful, but the second "trick" was fatal. The Lexus broke through cast-iron barriers and plunged into the water.
Andrey, who was filming everything, survived by miracle: he recorded everything on video. Now he is the main witness to this tragic event.
