Another "courier" has been detained. Did he visit your elderly relatives today at 12:26 in Yekaterinburg, officers from Police Department No. 11 jointly with colleagues from Police Department No. 8 of the city UMVD detained another "fugitive."
He was identified as a 20-year-old previously unconvicted resident of Pervouralsk. He admitted his involvement in the crime and stated that he found the job offer as a courier on social networks.
Everything then developed according to a standard scenario—an unknown caller, posing as a senior designer at the company where the victim works, contacted a 1961-born pensioner and reported a leak of information about the company's employees, requesting assistance.
The woman agreed, after which a fake FSB employee contacted her and explained that fraudsters had transferred money to an "extremist" on her behalf, and for safety reasons, it was allegedly necessary to "declare the funds."
The caller added that an undercover FSB officer would be assigned for this purpose. Then the woman placed 1 million rubles in cash into a bag at her home and handed it over to a courier waiting outside her door.
After some time, the "fugitive" was detained by police. During questioning, he explained to the officers that he received a message from his supervisor about needing to pick up a bag of money from the woman at the specified address in exchange for a reward of 5,000 rubles. Subsequently, he handed the money bag over to intermediaries through a courier service.
A criminal case has been initiated and is being investigated against the suspect for committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed on a large scale). He faces up to 6 years of imprisonment.
Currently, police are checking whether the "fugitive" is involved in other similar episodes of this unlawful activity committed within the regional center.
The Yekaterinburg police once again remind citizens, especially young people, of the criminal liability for participating in fraudulent schemes and urge them to avoid such activities.
