The mother of 12-year-old Polina, who died last August as a result of a gas explosion in a five-story building on Siberian Street, 81 in Nizhny Tagil, has been questioned as a suspect. This was reported to "KP-Ekaterinburg" by the woman's lawyer.
Elena S. has been questioned as a suspect in a criminal case being investigated under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing the death of two or more persons through negligence"). Investigators believe that Elena did not grant "Gazeks" employees access to her apartment to inspect the gas equipment.
According to her defender, the criminal case was opened by the Investigative Committee on June 23. The charges against the woman, who lost her daughter as a result of the building collapse, have not yet been officially brought, reports "KP-Ekaterinburg." Elena S. does not admit guilt.
The defense states that the shut-off valve (tap) of the riser in the apartment was closed, and during the inspection (conducted over a month and a half before the explosion), no directives to eliminate violations were issued to Elena S. by "Gazeks," and she was not held administratively responsible for obstructing the inspection.
Immediately after the building collapsed due to the gas explosion, a criminal case was initiated under Article 238 of the Criminal Code ("Performing work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements"). Charges have been brought against three "Gazeks" employees: locksmiths Alexander Alimov and Alexandra Erykina, as well as foreman Maxim Grivsky. They are under house arrest.
The building was declared emergency and was demolished. The apartment owners received compensation from the state for the purchase of new housing.
