Security forces revealed details of the case involving the murder of two 13-year-old girls by the "exemplary family man" Shevnin
Today at 12:53, a new defendant appeared in the criminal case of the 1994 murder of two 13-year-old girls in Yekaterinburg, which was believed to have been committed by previously convicted businessman Andrey Shevnin: his uncle.
Forty-five-year-old Andrey Shevnin is charged with deliberate murder under aggravating circumstances (committed with the intent to conceal another crime), involving rape, in complicity with a group of persons, as well as rape using the victim’s helpless state by a group of persons in relation to a minor.
He committed the brutal crimes jointly with his uncle. His acquaintance Vasily Kuznetsov assisted them in carrying out the act.
According to the prosecution in the Sverdlovsk region (which provided the indictment in the Shevnin and Kuznetsov case), the investigators state that from October 16 to 17, 1994, the accused, his uncle, and their acquaintance, a 13-year-old girl, were together in an apartment on Nachdiva Onufrieva Street in Yekaterinburg.
During their interaction, the men formed a criminal intent to rape the minor, which they each subsequently carried out. Fearing that the victim might report to law enforcement authorities, they strangled the girl and also struck her in the head with a knife.
Realizing that the victim’s friend saw who she left with, the younger relative also intended to kill her. He decided to involve his acquaintance Kuznetsov in carrying out the murder. He had a trusting relationship with the murdered girl’s friend and helped deliver her to the same apartment. Shevnin and his relative each repeatedly raped and then murdered the second girl.
The accomplices jointly loaded the bodies into a VAZ-2105 and took them to a forested area on the northern shore of Chusovskoe Lake. To be certain of the death of the second minor, they additionally inflicted at least 10 stab wounds with a sharp knife to her neck, chest, and abdomen. They also set fire to the bodies of the murdered girls and then left the scene together.
The criminal cases against Andrey Shevnin and Vasily Kuznetsov will soon be sent to the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg. They will be tried under the Criminal Code of the RSFSR.
Kuznetsov is charged with aiding and abetting deliberate murder under aggravating circumstances. He has admitted guilt. Due to his pre-trial cooperation agreement, his criminal case has been separated into a separate proceeding.
"Suspects were detained on October 23, 2024, by police officers supported by Rosgvardiya SOBR troops. One was arrested at his residence, and the other in a recreation park," said Valery Gorelukh, head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Sverdlovsk Region.
The criminal case against Shevnin’s uncle has been separated into a separate proceeding due to his search.
As reported earlier, the fates of the suspects after those horrifying events varied. Kuznetsov spent half his life in prison, while Shevnin became a successful businessman and offered investigators a bribe of 50 million rubles to go unpunished. After being placed in detention, he requested to be transferred to a SVO unit.
