In Russia, the annual sparrow census will begin on August 9.
Today from August 9 to 17, Russia will host the annual "All-Russian Sparrow Census" — an eco-educational campaign aimed at gathering up-to-date data on the population of these birds. This is reported by Kommersant.
In recent years, the number of sparrows in Europe has been decreasing, according to the organizers of the census. "Even the most common species of living organisms can become vulnerable over a short period or even disappear altogether," they note. The campaign will help Russian scientists monitor the situation with sparrows in our country and note any changes. The event is held twice a year — in summer and winter.
Anyone interested can participate in the campaign and assist scientists with counting. Participants should choose convenient locations for sparrow observation, watch them, and keep a diary. In the diary, it is necessary to record the number of sparrows, describe their behavioral features, and optionally add photos and videos.
