Police launched a chase involving gunfire after a drunk driver on the EKAD.

The Yekaterinburg police detained a drunk driver using firearms, the press secretary of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Valery Gorelykh, reported.

The day before, August 31, at about 20:18 a traffic police crew on the 30th kilometer of the EKAD ordered the driver of a Chevrolet Lanos to stop. The young man ignored the order to stop.

"Having chosen a safe section of the road, the Interior Ministry representative fired warning shots into the air, but the violator continued his attempt to flee. Then several aimed shots were fired at the foreign-made car's wheels. When one of the bullets punctured a tire, the driver stopped tempting fate and surrendered on Berezovaya Street near house No. 37," Valery Gorelykh said.

The driver turned out to be a 20-year-old resident of Beryozovsky who had no prior convictions and did not have a driver's license.

"The detainee explained that he had drunk ten bottles of beer, after which he went out for a drive. When he saw the traffic police patrol, he got scared and sped off. A sobriety test ultimately showed 0.172 mg/l," Colonel Gorelykh noted.

The State Traffic Inspectorate officers drew up four administrative reports against the offending driver: for failing to comply with the requirement to present the vehicle to police officers or to stop the vehicle, for not having a valid OSAGO insurance policy, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and for not wearing a seat belt.

"To clarify the circumstances, the reckless driver was taken to Police Precinct No. 14 of the Yekaterinburg Interior Ministry Directorate, and the foreign-made car was placed in an impound lot. The internal affairs bodies are conducting an investigation, following the results of which a justified procedural decision will be made," Valery Gorelykh summed up.

Earlier we reported how in Nizhny Tagil police noticed a suspicious van with its headlights on on a lawn. It turned out the driver had died behind the wheel.
