In Yekaterinburg, a 17-year-old suffered a stroke and a heart attack at a sports club.

In Yekaterinburg on September 2 a 17‑year‑old teenager suffered a stroke while training at the ReGym gym in Khimmash. It later emerged that the young man had also had a heart attack.

The boy fell ill in the locker room, but the sports club was unable to help him immediately.

      — He was lying on the locker‑room floor. The doctor said he had suffered a stroke and a subacute ischemic infarction. The club had no protocol for such a case, there was no specialist who could provide first aid, although this should be provided. They don’t even have a first‑aid kit with smelling salts, a blood‑pressure monitor or a pulse oximeter, — the victim’s brother told the E1.RU portal.

The ambulance press service confirmed that medics had responded to a call at the fitness center at 45 Profsoyuznaya. They were notified of the incident at 16:12.

      — A call was received regarding a deterioration in health and loss of coordination; the call was classified as urgent. The team was dispatched within 30 minutes. Waiting times for urgent ambulance calls are not regulated by law, — the ambulance press service said.

The Sverdlovsk Health Ministry’s press service declined to comment on the incident, citing that they did not have permission from the parents.

E1.RU also found that the teenager had been doing karate for eight years and decided to take up weightlifting in the upper grades.

The boy is now in the Ninth Children’s Hospital. His condition is stable.

      — There are speech defects; he is weak now and still finds it difficult to write messages and express his thoughts. He is undergoing examinations, and doctors are trying to determine why this happened.

The family also noted that the ambulance took almost an hour and a half to reach the sports club.

Earlier, a Sverdlovsk schoolgirl nearly suffocated to death while walking with her parents.
