
The number of fatal traffic accidents involving electric scooters in Yekaterinburg has tripled.
An increase in traffic accidents with fatalities and injuries involving electric scooters has been recorded in 2025 in the Sverdlovsk Region, the regional State Traffic Inspectorate reported.
As of September 3, since the beginning of the year 119 accidents involving electric scooters have occurred; 4 people have died and 116 were injured. Most of these accidents (94 accidents, or 80%) took place in Yekaterinburg.
One in three of the injured is a minor.
Of those who died as a result of accidents involving electric scooters, three were killed in Yekaterinburg and one in Tavda. In 2024 one person died in a scooter accident in Yekaterinburg.
An explosive rise in electric scooter accidents was recorded in Kamensk-Uralsky — 4 incidents (+300%). In Nizhny Tagil there were 8 such accidents (+33%). A 100% increase was recorded in 11 cities of the region (1–2 accidents each).
According to the EAN agency, the Sverdlovsk Region has become the absolute leader in Russia this year in the number of fatalities in accidents involving electric scooters.
In April, Igor Oshchepkov, chairman of the committee for transport, traffic organization and development of the street-road network of the Yekaterinburg administration, threatened kick-sharing services with a complete ban on operation due to ongoing violations. Calls to introduce restrictions on kick-sharing services came from both ordinary citizens and deputies of the regional legislative assembly. However, Yekaterinburg’s head, Alexey Orlov, refused to consider serious restrictions on kick-sharing services.
