Tons of infected oranges from Africa were brought into Yekaterinburg stores.
Four tonnes of infected oranges from South Africa were brought to Yekaterinburg and other cities in the Sverdlovsk region, the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor reported.
“Necessary measures were taken with regard to the oranges, including inspection and sampling. According to the results of the laboratory examination, the adult of the red citrus scale was found on the citrus fruits,” the agency noted.
The main route of spread for the scale is planting material (seedlings, cuttings, young plants), not the fruit. Thus, the oranges do not pose a significant threat to local gardens and farms and have been allowed for sale, Ura.Ru writes.
Recall that a few days ago tens of thousands of infected roses were brought into Yekaterinburg.
