Yekaterinburg garage owners rebelled against the new road.

      Garage owners in the Southwest protested the construction of a new street. They objected to the development of a section of Ukhtomskaya Street; a through road would connect Volgogradskaya and Zoologicheskaya Streets. In August the project was put up for public discussion. Hundreds of garage owners submitted their comments, but they were ignored.

      What residents said:

      - There are enough existing roads; the new section with a traffic light will only slow down the movement of cars and trams along Volgogradskaya;

      - The project does not take into account changes in elevation;

      - The road will change the traffic organization scheme, leading to violations of fire safety regulations and vehicle evacuation conditions;

      - Garages will have to be demolished for the road because the existing width is insufficient.

      Members of the garage cooperative were promised that the road construction would not affect their properties.

      "The withdrawal of land from the garage cooperative is not envisaged. The demolition of garage complex buildings is not provided for by the linear object demarcation project," the portal E1.RU cites from the response.

      According to members of the GК "Yugo-Zapadny," the price of their land will fall after construction, linking the events to the nearby development of a new residential complex.

      "They have decided to clear our land plots in the future, not to buy the garages, but to create an emergency situation by building an unnecessary road between our garage complexes and then buy up the property at throwaway prices," Vadim Arapov, chairman of the "Yugo-Zapadny" garage cooperative, told E1.RU.

      Garage owners plan to appeal to the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee.

      Earlier we reported that in Uktus hundreds of garages are already slated to be demolished to make way for new apartment buildings.
