
The Sverdlovsk police maintained public order during the gubernatorial election.
Elections for the governor of the Sverdlovsk Region have concluded. In a number of territories, elections to local self-government bodies took place. Voting lasted three days at 2,471 polling stations in 94 municipal formations of the region.
To maintain public order during the election days, 5,359 employees of internal affairs bodies, 150 cadets of the Ural Law Institute (UrYuI), 153 National Guard officers, 597 representatives of security organizations, 211 members of people's volunteer squads, as well as volunteer assistants and volunteers were deployed.
"In case the situation deteriorated, a reserve of forces and resources was formed, which proved unnecessary. In addition, police officers ensured the safe delivery of the final protocols from the cities and districts to the regional electoral commission. A working group operated at the regional police headquarters throughout this time. Representatives of the leadership of the main directorate's services and units were sent to all territorial internal affairs bodies to coordinate the work on maintaining public order during the elections. Lieutenant General Alexander Meshkov, head of the Sverdlovsk garrison, went to Novaya Lyalya and Verkhoturye to check on the state of affairs regarding the maintenance of public order at polling stations," said the press secretary of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Valery Gorelykh.
No public order violations occurred during the elections; the garrison handled the tasks assigned. General Meshkov instructed the personnel service to prepare an order to reward the most distinguished employees. The head of the regional electoral commission, Elena Klimenko; the co-chair of the Public Observation Center, Tatyana Merzlyakova; and the region's minister of public security, Alexander Kudryavtsev, rated the work of law enforcement officers as excellent.
