Yekaterinburg Arena was named one of the world's strangest stadiums.
Yekaterinburg Arena, where the football club Ural plays its home games, ranked 14th in a list of the world's most unusual arenas according to the portal StadiumDB.
The structure, built in 1957, underwent a major reconstruction for the World Cup in Russia and was reopened in 2018. The arena's main feature is the temporary stands, nicknamed the "ears", which extend beyond the main structure. They were originally supposed to be removed after the tournament, but they remained and became part of the stadium. Dismantling the stands would cost a billion rubles.
Topping the ranking was the Turkish Matlı Stadium in Bursa — its façade is designed in the form of a giant crocodile.
