The preliminary hearing on the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation’s lawsuit seeking the deprivatization of the company “Oblkommunenergo,” which took place on Monday, September 22 at the Leninsky District Court in Yekaterinburg, was held without media present in the courtroom, the EAN agency reports. The court granted the Prosecutor General’s Office’s motion to hear the case in a closed session (without journalists and members of the public). The materials of the suit include tax documents and information on the movement of funds, which fall under banking secrecy, explained Prosecutor General’s Office representative Alexander Voronin. Meanwhile, representatives of the defendants, including the lawyer for the Chemezov family, urged that media representatives be allowed to remain in the courtroom, EAN reports.
According to the lawyers representing the interests of “Oblkommunenergo,” there is no information in the case that constitutes any kind of secret. “People have the right to know what is happening,” said one of the company’s representatives.
Recall that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation found violations of anti-corruption legislation in the actions of officials of the Sverdlovsk Region government, the state unitary enterprise GUP “Oblkommunenergo” and its subsidiary structures. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, more than 12 billion rubles were transferred to foreign accounts.
