
A resident of Yekaterinburg has been detained on charges of treason.
A resident of the Sverdlovsk Region has been detained on suspicion of transferring money to the account of a foreign organization that was supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine, RIA Novosti was told by the press service of the FSB Directorate for the Sverdlovsk Region. A criminal case has been opened on charges of high treason.
"The Directorate of the FSB of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region has uncovered, documented and suppressed the illegal activity of a 33‑year‑old citizen of the Russian Federation who was involved in providing assistance to a foreign state by transferring funds from his bank account to the account of one of the foreign organizations that provide resources to the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the security service said.
The suspect has been detained; a criminal case under the article on high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) has been opened and is being investigated. A court has ordered his arrest, the agency added.
Earlier in April, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court, on charges of high treason, sentenced Russian citizen Evgeny Varaksin to 12 years in a strict‑regime penal colony. He was also fined 300,000 rubles.
In April 2022, while in Poland, Varaksin transferred money to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine through an international organization.
