A criminal case has been opened into the construction of "Baden-Baden" on Mount Bessonova in Sysert.
A criminal case on the charge of "Negligence" has been opened in the Sverdlovsk Region over the construction of the Baden Family complex on Mount Bessonova in Sysert, which was opposed by local residents and regional historians. News of the opening of the criminal case emerged on Monday, the EAN news agency reports.
In 2023, Sysert’s head Dmitry Niskovskikh publicly supported the idea of building thermal baths on Mount Bessonova, which, according to regional historians, has archaeological value. These sites were the scene of events during Yemelyan Pugachev’s Peasant War.
Baden Family’s plans sparked protests from local residents. Activists demanded an additional historical and cultural examination of the area, during which construction was suspended. Artifacts from the 18th century were found during excavations.
Evgeny Kononov’s company (Baden Family) stressed that construction work was carried out without violations, which is confirmed by previous inspections.
"A conclusion was issued that our activities are being conducted in strict accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation. The construction of a unique thermal resort is being carried out on the basis of an approved project; there are no violations," the Baden Family press service said in a comment published on the Telegram channel of Vechernie Vedomosti.
Baden Family notes that conclusions on the possibility of carrying out earthworks, construction, reclamation and economic works on plots of land located on the territory of the city of Sysert were issued by the Department of State Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Sverdlovsk Region.
The press service of the Baden-Baden company said it is ready to cooperate with investigative authorities in the criminal case concerning the construction of the bath complex on Mount Bessonova in Sysert.
Earlier, the beneficiaries of the construction in Sysert of a landfill for the transport of Yekaterinburg’s waste became subjects of criminal cases. Nikolai Smirnov, the former Minister of Energy and Housing and Communal Services of the Sverdlovsk Region, who has been under investigation since January in a bribery case, told the public that agricultural lands in the Sysert district were the most suitable location for the landfill.
In September investigators put behind bars the owner of LLC "Holding Company 'Environmental Systems'," Tatyana Chernykh. It was this company that intended to build an "environmental cluster" despite fierce protests from local residents.
