A school, a medical clinic and an MFC were flooded in a village in Sverdlovsk Oblast.
In Kosulino, a village in Sverdlovsk Oblast, groundwater, mixing with sewage, has flooded the basement of School No. 8 and the vegetable gardens of private homes.
According to a local resident, in summer the water flooded the floors in the corridors of a new medical clinic nearby. And in the MFC building opposite the school, plaster is already crumbling from the damp.
Another village resident said that her vegetable garden is flooded and water is standing in her cellar.
— We’ve lived here for 55 years, there has never been anything like this. Usually we harvest about 25 buckets of potatoes from the plot; this year we barely managed to collect one bucket. And they’re small, only slightly larger than peas. Our entire crawl space is flooded — the water is knee-deep, and you can’t even go down there in boots, — the pensioner told the EAN publication.
According to residents, the flooding was caused by a disruption in the drainage system. Water from the well near the school is pumped into a pipe that was laid in Soviet times and runs to the Bobrovka River.
A primary school teacher and the caretaker of School No. 8, Ivan, added that the school’s basements have been flooded since May.
The head of the administration of the Beloyarsky urban district, Grigory Vikharev, said he is aware of the problem in Kosulino and is working on fixing it.
— We know about the problem; we dealt with it almost all summer. We installed pumps and are diverting the water. Unfortunately, the area is located on a bog. We have a contract to install a sewage pumping station; as soon as we finish the station, we will be able to divert the water and solve the problem. Everything must be done before the cold sets in so that this does not create a danger to the school’s foundation, — Vikharev commented.
Earlier it was reported that electricity had been cut off for residents of cottages near Yekaterinburg.
