No ambulance was called because the pistol was an air gun. The shooter turned out to be a ninth-grader from one of Yekaterinburg's schools. His pistol has been seized. Juvenile affairs officers from Police Department No. 12 are working with the detainee.
Authorities say the teenagers have been literally terrorizing Gortans drivers and conductors on a systematic basis. They engage in vandalism and "zaceping" (train surfing).

In footage shot by one of the tram crews, a whole group of minors, appearing to be 10–15 years old, can be seen hiding their faces.
