Tons of infected mandarins were brought to Yekaterinburg.
A consignment of infected mandarins from Iran arrived in Yekaterinburg — Rosselkhoznadzor specialists found 18.6 tonnes of citrus. Despite the presence of a certificate attesting to their safety, an inspection showed otherwise, the agency's press service reported.
"The product was found to contain a quarantine pest — the Mediterranean fruit fly," Rosselkhoznadzor clarified.
The insects were detected during laboratory tests and sampling. The owner of the consignment decided to carry out a full disinfestation of the mandarins.
"The procedure is necessary to ensure the biological safety of the region," the agency stressed.
