In Yekaterinburg, a 2-year-old toddler choked on soup and nearly died.
Doctors from Yekaterinburg and Moscow saved 2-year-old Yekaterinburg resident Makar, who had choked on soup and nearly suffocated. A lump of food entered his lungs and bronchi, he had difficulty breathing, and the boy began to turn blue.
Parents called medics, and the child was taken by ambulance to the regional children's hospital.
— It was important to clear the airways of food matter as quickly as possible to restore their patency. We succeeded, — Elena Nekrasova, head of the thoracic department of the regional children's hospital, told the press service of the Sverdlovsk Ministry of Health.
Makar was connected to a mechanical ventilator, on which he spent 12 days. When he was able to breathe on his own, he was discharged from the hospital, but a month later an examination revealed bilateral lung damage.
The child returned to the hospital and was taken to the infectious disease ward of Hospital No. 40. Doctors ran tests and ruled out all infections. For assistance, the doctors at the Yekaterinburg hospital also turned to colleagues in Moscow. After a consultation, specialists from the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center invited the child for treatment. The Ministry of Health, with the participation of physicians from the Center for Disaster Medicine, organized the transfer of the little patient.
— The child's condition was severe but stable; he required constant oxygen support. That day flights at Moscow airports were being delayed, and the little patient waited for his departure for some time in our airport medical unit. The air transport went smoothly, — noted Alexander Savitsky, head of the training department of the Center for Disaster Medicine and the chief freelance specialist in first aid for the regional Ministry of Health.
In Moscow Makar was treated for another three weeks; the boy was diagnosed with "pneumonitis caused by food and vomit." He is now fine.
Earlier we reported that in Yekaterinburg a little girl nearly died after swallowing magnets from a toy.
