A resident of Nizhny Tagil has been sentenced to actual imprisonment on a criminal charge of robbery he committed a year ago in the "Monetka" supermarket, the Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office reports.

The defendant in the Dzerzhinsky District Court of Nizhny Tagil was a 46-year-old local resident. In November 2024, while in the Monetka grocery store, he decided to leave the store past the checkout with cognac and women's pantyhose. However, a store employee noticed him and tried to stop him.

The man from Tagil then pulled a knife he had concealed under his clothing and, threatening to harm the employee and another customer, fled with the goods. The value of the stolen items amounted to 723 rubles 37 kopecks.

He was charged under part 2 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery). The man pleaded guilty to the crime and fully compensated the loss. By the court's sentence he was given a punishment of one year and eight months' imprisonment to be served in a general-regime penal colony.
