The mayor of Yekaterinburg named another celebrity guest for the opening of the downtown ice rink.
The main ice rink in Yekaterinburg will open on December 12. This year the venue will be updated — it will feature new decorative elements and improved infrastructure, Mayor Alexey Orlov said.
The season opening will take place with a gala show featuring renowned figure skaters: Alexei Yagudin — an Olympic champion and one of Russia’s most decorated athletes — and Evgenia Medvedeva — a two-time world champion and the first in history to win a senior world title one year after the junior. In addition to exhibition performances, free figure skating master classes will be offered to visitors.
A pavilion and the rink’s barriers have already been installed on the square, and the first fir trees have been put up. They plan to begin flooding the ice at the end of November, when stable frosts set in.
The rink will be open until February 23. During the winter season, concerts, festive programs and the opportunity to celebrate New Year’s Eve on the ice — with music, treats and an atmosphere of winter fun — are planned.
