In Yekaterinburg, car tires can be turned in free of charge.

The city authorities of Yekaterinburg are working on creating a new logistics center that will accept old car tires, electrical equipment and scrap metal from residents and organizations. After the facility opens, all of the above can be handed in free of charge. Photo: Yulia Averina/uralweb.ru/ Unscrupulous motorists and tire service shops don’t want to pay 150 rubles for a single tire and throw tires into public dumpsters.

The project is unique in that it is not a warehouse or a landfill, but a transfer hub. Waste collected during the day will not be stockpiled on-site — it is planned to be promptly sent for recycling. This approach reduces potential risks associated with waste storage and eliminates the likelihood of fires.

Several sites in Yekaterinburg, located away from residential buildings, are being considered where the center could operate under the management of the district DEU. The logistics of collection and transportation have already been worked out. In addition, there is an interested partner: it has a well-established arrangement with a recycling plant in Samara that is ready to accept worn tires.
